Rural Nebraska needs a common sense voice that values family, respect, and decency.
Hastings, NE – On Monday evening, Nebraska State Senator Steve Halloran, interjected Senator Machaela Cavanaugh’s name in a scene from a book depicting sexual violence. Michelle Smith, a candidate running for Nebraska Legislature in District 33, responds to Halloran’s comments:
“Senator Halloran’s behavior and actions are inconsistent with the value of decency that I learned growing up in District 33. As a mental health professional from rural Nebraska, I understand the psychological impact of this type of behavior which can be extremely harmful and detrimental for the well-being of women and survivors in our community.
The people of Nebraska deserve better representation. I am running for State Legislature under the values of respect, dignity, and decency. My experiences allow me to empathetically listen, understand, and advocate for all constituents in District 33.
Together, we can do better and vote for representatives who will work tirelessly to create a safe and thriving community for all. This includes increasing mental health services for the people of rural Nebraska.”
